José Luis Iñiguez is an artist based in Oakland, Ca. He received his BA in Studio Art from California State University Bakersfield in 2008, and he is currently working on his MFA in Interdisciplinary at California College of the Arts. Trained as a ceramist, his practice is not solely ceramics. He is frequently working in mixed media, layering elements of photography, wood, embroidery, sound, and found objects.

The pivotal influence to Iñiguez’s work consists on entering the private sphere to a point where subject matter becomes confessional and acknowledges vulnerability. He is invested in unveiling personal issues to challenge social expectations of men in the Mexican American culture. As of now, the fodder revolves around emotional challenges of identity, sexuality, religion, and the uncertainties that encircle his everyday life in the city.
