Claudia Marquez is a first generation American from Los Angeles and has recently received a BFA in Photography from California College of the Arts.  As a multimedia artist, Claudia draws inspiration from the struggles of friends and family that have immigrated here and strives to convey the social injustices of undocumented people in the U.S. She works closely with the East Bay chapter of the Immigrant Youth Coalition in an effort to help provide a safe space to discuss
immigrant issues and to empower and educate the community.

Over the last century photo documentarians have documented the rough lives of immigrants in the United States. Sadly the social injustices of being undocumented still exist in our country today. Being a first generation American, many of my family and friends have immigrated here. Their struggle is what keeps me motivated to create and to express gratitude for the endless efforts of those still fighting for rights.
